This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.

That’s my Sociology “book”. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; there’s something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.

This is why we download.

Spreading this shit like nutella because goddamn textbooks are so expensive.

Your sociology books were only $5 ( not the $200 one he made you buy) what the fuck my school sold them for about $200 and our professor said fuck that order this online one for $35 and download it to your computer . Damn colleges squeezing every penny possible from us

I did find all of my professors were really good at trying to be as helpful as they could about us finding the cheapest sources for textbooks - a number of times I’d get the “There’s no need to buy the newest 7th edition - any edition after the 4th should be just fine” type speeches at the start of a class.

That being said, I don’t think the textbooks are the colleges squeezing every possible penny - I think that is more the companies that publish the textbooks.

As close as you will ever be to a nuclear explosion

THIS IS FUCKING TERRIFYING

No thank you.

The columns of smoke in the foreground are telephone poles boiling

This is way cooler to look at than it should be

Science side of Tumblr would like to add:
Heat is generally transmitted in 3 forms: conduction, convection, radiation.
The fact that the telephone poles and wires are boiling away well before the shockwave hits them indicates that the heat from the explosion has not reached them by convection (much slower than the speed of sound) or by conduction (at best, comparable to the speed of sound), but purely by radiation. In other words: the explosion is bright enough to boil everything.

and my U.S. History teacher was trying to get us to understand why it was such a big deal that England had put a tax on colonial sugar, and he goes,

"What if you had to pay a tax every time you logged onto wifi?"

And the whole class just went

and I heard at least two people whisper “I would murder someone”
